NEW YEAR'S / NU BEERS

2009...well...kinda sucked. The music industry is in an even worse state then it had been in 2008 & things aren't looking up. More shitty bands / more shitty press. 'Hey man, don't worry about how shitty 2009 was...2010 is gonna rule! You'll see!'. Fuck that man. The times are rough & by prediction, will continue to turn up the suck throughout the foreseeable future. But hey! don't let my bad attitude get you down! Buy that big screen, eat fast food, cut your hair like tom brady & obey the man.

my new years resolutions:

5. convince john e. utah touring is a good idea.
4. potentially give ej a 24-pack of pabst he rightfully won.
3. create a cult much like branch davidian's waco compound extravaganza.
2. formally change my name to DAS STIER.
1. destroy the cake police island of whiny rich kids.

new grizzly records site::::up

Mr. Binns has launched a nu-website for his label, Grizzly Records. I think it looks lovely (thanks to Dr. Curly). Only thing missing at this point is the Dream Buddies profile in the artists section. Soon enough, soon enough.

NO UNITY

Photobucket

I'm not sure how things are in other towns, but the San Diego music scene is rough. THERE IS NO UNITY, only strong nitches + lonely stragglers. These strong nitches I speak of include: Art Fag, Single Screen, Obscure Magpie, North County's Cake Police & sure, even my own CS Touring family (I'm sure there are more, but I don't care). Bands/artists seem to be a bit afraid to span out & mingle with other nitches either because they think said nitch sucks or they're just too pretentious. How is the broad SD show goer / music listener audience supposed to know you if you stay curled up in your shell? Thinking your too kewl for your own good is blasphemous & unproductive. Break the cycle!

BTW - while I'm un-happy & anxious, what's with musicians in this town creating two bands that sound almost exactly alike & try to push both projects as if they're something special? Seems to be happening now more then I can ever remember. My opinion: your spawn band is a waste of space.

drugosphere

Jason from 7 inches blogdom wrote a little rant on Drug Wars today. He even linked to Das Cult's own Utah's rant on why "lo-fi" will be the self implosive death of hipsters or whatever the fuck he was bitching about. Here's some quick excerpts:

"3 color spraypaint job on some pressed particle board, it screams punk DIY. Making something out of nothing, that never gets old. Playing guitar, bass and drums at a frantic pace, with a Hot Snakes feel never gets old.

4 Tracks named 9, 8, and 46 all at 33 1/3, a proper punk EP, all of them are available to preview at their
myspace...the melodies have been creeping into my head ever since. It's almost a shame actually, the quality is so god damn bad, if you go back and listen to the vinyl...shit it's like the lo-fi version of these guys...and you already know how they feel about that."
