I'm really fond of Sea Of Bees (aka Julie Baenziger). I can't begin to tell you how many female fronted artists/bands I listen to daily, so she fits in just fine. My homie Michael of Crossbill Records sent me an advance of the new record, Songs For The Ravens (due out June 1st) & goddamn is it smooth. The thing that's most impressive about this record (other then its genuinely grand pop songs) is its production value. Ambient meets electronica (re: 'Skinnybone' & 'Willis'), but not over the top. Emotionally driven track 'Wizbot' really makes Julie's vocal range shine. Then there are some fairly simple, fun tracks (re: 'The Gold' & 'Sidepain') that I can't help but to think will be played all over college radio this summer. When's the next record coming out Michael? I've already run this one into the ground.
Sea of Bees plays the Ruby Room (wtf?) on Saturday May 8th.
