What is Pieces of Punk? P.O.P. are random things, institutions, fashions, local business, and ideologies that help make punk what it is; kind of like putting together a puzzle. The location of all this is based in Southern California because, if you don't already know what happened, we're punk! Every punk kid needs a hangout spot. There were several that were decent when I was growing up, but the one that stands out as my favorite was Experience Coffee. Located in East County, Rancho San Diego, Experience Coffee was a breeding ground for misconduct and abuse. It was also like Cheers, you could go there at any point of the day and there was always someone you knew hanging out. This is where punks hung with goths, new age hippie hung with '90s grunge, and the addicts hung with the sober kids. Unfortunately, this is also around the time when a lot of friends of mine started their substance abuse... Drug of choice? Heroin. Several of them are dead now, and the rest have either vanished or are still struggling with addiction. Experience is closed now, and has since reopened as a italian restaurant. Sometimes when I have absolutely nothing to do i'll take the trek out to east county and drive by it and remember...
